How are world cup countries immediately following the big event?

I’ve got an opportunity for an internship in South Africa this summer, from July 13-August 16th or so. Those of you who follow soccer will know that this is immediately after the World Cup, and I was wondering, for those who have had experience living in a host country, how is the atmosphere after everyone’s left? That is to say, is it a rather dead, tired atmosphere, or is it still reasonably vibrant. Go ahead and answer with basically anything you have to say about it, as this is a relatively open ended question.

Well, I vactioned in Germany a week after the last World Cup, and I can tell you I got a lot of great deals on leftover world cup memorabilia, souvenirs, and junk. Yeah, there was still a buzz going on, but it was pretty calm. It was a great vacation, but don’t expect the world cup hoopla—it’ll be over.

You will have a great time with that internship….it will be picking up trash after all of the world cup fans have trashed the country of course.
